Biofuel Production Technology from Biomass

The technology is applicable to both large and small scale production systems (local farms, food processing companies) and can be introduced as a secondary unit within other bioenergy production systems, e.g., biogas plants.

Contacts and Location

Description

The technology consists of simple mechanical pre-treatment that is combined with brief boiling and enzymatic hydrolysis.

Fermentation feed separation and enzyme recirculation is provided via specific membrane separation technologies to decrease the production costs, remove fermentation inhibitors and balance hydrolysis with fermentation. The technology is applicable to both large and small scale production systems (local farms, food processing companies) and can be introduced as a secondary unit within other bioenergy production systems, e.g., biogas plants.

Contract title

Biodegvielas ražošanas tehnoloģija no biomasas

Contract short description

Arvien lielāka uzmanība tiek pievērsta biodegvielai kā alternatīvās enerģijas avotam. Tomēr tā plašāku lietošanu kavē salīdzinoši dārgās ražošanas un substrāta izmaksas. Piedāvātās tehnoloģijas pamatā ir otrās paaudzes biodegvielas iegūšana no lignocelulozi saturošas biomasas, kas netiek izmantota pārtikā (lauksaimniecības atkritumi, nezāles, salmi, kokapstrādes atkritumi). Tehnoloģiju iespējams pielāgot gan bioetanola, gan biobutanola ražošanai.

Advantages:
The production of biofuel does not involve hazardous or eco-unfriendly lignocellulosic biomass treatment techniques, e.g., acid or base hydrolysis, steam explosion. For enzymatic hydrolysis it is possible to apply commercially available or special in-house made enzymes. Production costs are reduced with the introduction of membrane separation techniques. The technology is applicable to production of both bio-ethanol or bio-butanol.
