Description

Ultrasound detector D1000x is a device that picks up ultrasound signals emitted by bats, insects or other animals and transforms them into audible sound. It can be used to detect and identify different animal species by their sounds in the field or record their ultrasound signals for later analysis.

Specification

The D1000x is a professional ultrasound detector and has 3 techniques of sound transformation – Heterodyning, Frequency division and Time Expansion. Heterodyning and Frequency Division (by the factor of 10) are real-time transformations (i.e. the sound from the detector is heard at the same time the call is emitted by an animal). Time expansion works by recording of the sound and then playing it back at a lower speed; it is most useful for later analysis of recordings as it reveals more details. D1000x is also equipped with its own memory card for the storage of recordings. Technical specifications: Type: Heterodyne, frequency division (x10), time expansion and direct recording Frequency range: 5 - 235 kHz (frequency division and heterodyne) 5 kHz – 0.4 x sampling frequency (time expansion and direct recording) Activating the high-pass filter results in a lower frequency limit of about 20 kHz. Heterodyne freq. resolution: 0.1 kHz (f0.2 kHz (18-43 kHz) 0.5 kHz (43.5-107 kHz) 1 kHz (108-235 kHz) Headphones output: 3.5 mm stereo jack, load impedance 32 ohms or greater HF/MEM output: 3.5 mm stereo jack, load impedance 500 ohms or greater, ca 600 mVrms at 0 dB Batteries: 5 x AA size, Alkaline or NiMH recommended External DC supply: 7-10 V, 250 mA (average), 700 mA (peak) Size: 170 x 80 x 35 mm, excl. microphone Weight: 600 g incl. batteries Direct playback and GPS connection also available.

Services

Ultrasound detector D1000x is mainly designed for the work with bats but can be used also in research work with insects (Orthoptera etc.) and other animals that emit ultrasound. It can be used for species finding and determination in the field as well as for making high quality recordings for later analysis. Ultrasound detector can be used in different surveys, monitoring counts and other research/monitoring activities. It provides solution for following questions: Species occurrence (in particular habitat or territory) Determination of species by its sounds Detecting species during night conditions etc.
